Sweet. Sounds like you have done some research.

I bought the JTR book from a guy I used to work with. I have the 14th Edition., Sixth printing 2001. I figured I would do a simple 4.3L V6 swap as my first engine swap. Then do a V8 Swap. Just not sure which truck I want to put it into. I might rebuild the 4.3L I pull out and stuff it into the '87, replacing the 2putt8. Then find a junk yard 5.7L and rebuild it and swap it into the '00. I will put a 2" body lift on the '00 before I drop the V8 in. That will help with firewall clearance, and tranny clearance.

Yea, removing the inner fenders is a snap, and propable a good idea.

i wonder how difficult a v8 swap would be into my 95? obviously alot different than the swap you are planning.

on 95's with CPI, you have to change the harness and computer over I believe, the V8's use MPFI.

Hey Kyle the ZR2 torsion bars are heavier and should work perfectly for this swap, yes they are 4.3Litres as well but the bars are definitely stronger. Make sure you get the complete Vehicle Identification Number from the engine donor truck to aid in the PCM programming.

Thanks for the ZR2 info Bill!

And the PCM is the same for my truck as it is for the C/K pickups of the same year range (and quite a few other vehicles). Only difference is programming.

Yes the PCM on any 97 and newer s or t truck (and some late production 1996's) is the same as the one used on the 96-2000 c and k trucks. Just make sure you get the VIN to reprogram your PCM with the V8 operating systems. You can even use your stock fuel pump,/lines (the fuel lines even enter at the same place so you don't have to modify them at all)and wiring harness (with slight modification). This is a very cool swap because the 4.3 is Identical to a 5.7 with two less cylinders, so all of you engine sensors and connectors for them are even the same (ckps,tps,ect,icm,etc..). I THINK even the fuel injector harness connector is the same, you just need to add a couple of terminals for the 2 additional injectors.
