01 misfire

01 misfire
Like a few others on here I have read about my 01 2dr. with 104,000 I recently bought for $500 the po thought it had a cracked block but after investigating just had 2 blown freeze plugs. now that it is running getting the dreaded P0300 misfire. Truck has been sitting for about 2 years so I put a little fresh gas in it and it fired right up. Seems to have a rough idle but runs well above idle. When at idle has a strong smell of unburnt fuel like my big block Camino warming up with the choke closed, really raw. Any idea the best place to start? Friend thinks it's a burnt valve but being a multiple misfire code that makes little sense to me. All I have done to this point is plugs.
one more thing and maybe it's not related but when I put it in drive it seems the idle will go up and sorta just move along without giving it any gas as if driving an older car with the idle screw turned up.
