1996 Chevy Blazer - Oil Pressure Problems
I just bought a 1996 Chevy Blazer, 4.3, V6. The body is great, as is the interior. However....about 15 minutes after getting the vehicle transferred from owner to owner and driving a few blocks to a family member's home, the vehicle lost all oil pressure (go figure -- just my luck). Despite the issues we had with the "previous owner" about trying to get some sort of help or cooperation (or lack thereof), we are now trying to get this problem fixed ASAP because the payments are going to start racking up next month.
Anyway, when the vehicle is first started, the oil pressure sits around 60 or so on the dash gauge. After about 10 minutes, it drops to practically 0 and the engine cuts off and stalls out (I have read several forum messages elsewhere that lead me to believe this is due to the low oil pressure triggering the fuel to cut out and stall, which is a great safety trick!) My problem is that we got a new oil pump and gasket, but have been told we are going to have to "lift" the motor to get it put in? Does anyone happen to know of any similar problems like the ones we are having AND what is really involved in replacing the oil pump? I don't want to have someone tell me it's more of a project than it really is and overcharge me....since I am not a mechanic, I haven't the faintest idea of what to expect. Thanks so much in advance!!

Try replacing the oil pressure sensor. My 03 did a similar thing when at idle but when rpm came up the pressure came up. It could be clogged.
