Default Stuck in drive and Neutral

I SEARCHED!!! and did find a thread with the exact same problem but the thread is locked and did not have the solution posted.

Problem is my son has a 99 jimmy 2wd 4.3 with console shifter. For some reason today he parked the jimmy and it would not shift into park. It will only move between drive and neutral. He said it seems like the button does not go all the way in but I am not sure, I rarely drive it so I don't know. Any suggestions on why it will not shift?

We have tried it with the key on/off, brake on/off and park brake on/off in all kinds of different combinations. Thanks for reading.

I dont know how to fix it yet but Im going to have to learn cause mine has the same problem yours has.

I know it goes through the floor underneith to the trans from the shifter. You can tell if its bad if you have bare cable showing through plastic coating around it from underneith.

cable is good, i removed the entire shift assembly from the center console, and I can shift the tranny manually by sliding the cable back and forth. When I push the shift handle button it only goes in half way and will not push the rod down to allow the shifter to move back and forth through the notches, hope that makes sense.

looks like there is an actuator or something in the assembly, I figure that actuator detects whether or not the brake is depressed allowing me to shift. maybe signal is not getting to the actuator. I need to know how to test the pins in the connector. Perhaps if this is bad will it not let me shift? I have no idea what i am looking at. I will try to post a picture.

looks like there is a manual over ride on the side of the actuator. It is a little white lever, i can use that to shift until i figure out how to trouble shoot it correctly.

I think its retarded they used a cable rather than the mechanical linkage like on my other vehicles.I know if my cable is bad which I beleive it is Im going to fab a linkage from a chevy truck or an older style Jimmy to shift my trans.

Very simple circuit. Here's the schematic for the shift interlock:
