Question 2000 RWD distributor cap replacement?

I'm just took my Blazer in for a look at the braking system and have a 150,000 mile look see at what the mechanic thought might need a little TLC. He pointed out that the distributor cap is the original and should be replaced with a new rotor and wiring. Stating that this is a "100,000 mi maintenance issue that needs to get done asap or my truck will suddenly die". I had the truck at the dealership at 120,000 for that check up and it was never mentioned. Is this fact or is the guy trying to take me for 300$? Also I asked for a replacement on the spark plugs and the mechanic said my Autolight spark plugs weren't good enough and the truck needed some 13$/spark plug equipment and that it's the only ones he's found that a Blazer doesn't chew through. The ABS sensors getting cleaned and the new spark plugs took all afternoon and cost 260$- did I get had? Cause it felt like it- and now I don't know if I can trust this mechanic anymore. The sad thing is that this was the first mechanic that didn't treat me like a dumb girl- or tell me my truck should just be trashed because of the short it has. But now I am fearful he will nickel and dime me on false repairs. When I got it back it is running much smoother but I knew it needed plugs so the better plugs doesn't really say much in his favor right now other than a 97$ fix suddenly became 261$!
Thanks guys,
Alicia

If the distributor cap and rotor are original they should be replaced with AC/Delco parts, but they cost only ~$50 and are extremely simple to replace. I also recommend AC/Delco spark plugs for these engines.

i paid $10/per plug+tax so that sounds about right. but hes saying that it took him over 2 hours to replace them?? thats a 1 hour job for a certified mechanic.

my rotor was $12 and i think its 2 screws, you just have to unplug the wires and take the cap off, it is a good idea to replace it, and also check the contacts on the cap.
