Default 4WD-Stuck in 4WD-'98 Blazer

'98 Blazer, 4.3L, Auto, Electronic push button on the dash 4WD. Stuck in 4WD. I pushed "4Hi" button, to engaged 4WD, to get up icy driveway. To get down drive, I shifted from D to 3 to 2 to 1, going very slow, so wouldn't slide off drive to the side. When got to street, pushed "2Hi" button, but heard nothing, nothing happened. I looked at buttons and ALL the lights were out. No green indicator light was on, so didn't know if in 4WD or 2WD. Determined I was still in 4WD. I checked fuse, removed fuse panel and giggled wires, removed switch from dash, giggled wires. Got the lights back on, w green indicator light on "4 Hi". But still when pushed "2Hi" button, nothing happens. No sound at all, no sound/clicking of attempting to shift from module under passenger dash. Nothing. Think it a short in wires behind dash, removed top layer of dash, but wires still under another layer behind instrument panel. Was going to check module, and switch at T case. Now read and learned about Vacuum hoses, etc. will check that. Was my down shifting all the way down to "1", while in "4 Hi" a big mistake? I was going very, very slow, proably 2-3 mph. driveway was shear ice. Did that cause something to "slip", break, disconnect? Why would all the lights go off on 4WD switch on dash, and I got them on again? New overhauled Transmission past February. 4WD switch has worked fine 2 or 3 times already this winter. I tried in Park, reverse, Neutral, Drive, low, backing up, forward, everything. There is nothing, when I press "2 Hi". Dead. I think it is electrical connection. I don't think it is the switch itself, cuz I went through similar 2 winters ago, it wouldn't disengage out of 4WD, alot of clicking in module when press "2 Hi" button. I just grabbed and giggled wires behind dash, and it has/had worked fine ever since, until now. I cannot remember if I had bought a new 4WD switch 2 winters ago, and determined that that was not the problem. Switch, when open up, and connections look ok. I think it a minor electrical glitch/short somewhere, somehow. Is there more than one fuse? I find only 1 fuse for 4WD, in fuse panel at end of dash on driver's side. I had put in "light up" fuse, it lights up if fuse burns out. But fuse is ok. I find no fuses for 4WD in fuse box in engine compartment. I cannot get it out of 4WD, I cannot drive it stuck in 4WD, cannot drive on highway at high speeds. Help!!!!

Default RE: 4WD-Stuck in 4WD-'98 Blazer

sounds like your switch is broken.

You can drive in 4hi if your careful, the drivetrain will bind up, however i you get in some loose stuff it will unbind. My wife has driven in 4hi on the insterstate several times on dry roads, after about 40 minutes it starts to make wierd noises, binding up. I dont recommend it, howveer if you have to get someplace in an emergency, your will get there.
