RE: 4x4 transmission
NO for several reasons.
1) In '98 GM changed the bellhousing. It is now removeable.
2) you will have to change the output shaft and the tailhousing. To replace the output shaft you have to take the transmission apart. Not something for the average home mechanic. Find a more compatible tranny. '96-'97 4L60E 4x4 from any rear wheel drive GM truck will work. GM put the 4x4 4L60E infull size pickups, suv (suburbans, Tahoes), and vans (G10, G20)to the mid sized versions (S10 pickup, s10 Blazer, and Astro vans(including all wheel drive)), plus the GMC versions of each as well. Should beplenty in the local salvage yard.
