Post 80 blazer reverse and 4x4 help

so i have a 1980 blazer with the 350 in it sitting on 44s and a 14 in lift and it has a slow leaky tranny. but anywasy i cant get the 4x4 to ingage at all. but also when i put it into reverse it slim to never works like if i have an incline it does work. and when i use the gas in reverse it like chugs horribly. excewpt for today it dropped so much in tmperature that one time i was messing with the 4x4 shifter back and forth. then went into reverse it was working so smoothly any ideas. thanks.

usually on these trucks reverse seems to slip or not work first if the transmission is low on fluid, if your levels are ok its possible the filter is cloged or even fell off causing it hard to suck up the fluid.

some other issues ive seen is people having a deep pan but having a dipstick for a regular pan so it gives a false reading. but your 4x4 not working shouldnt have anything to do with reverse not working they are on two separate controls basically
