Can I switch out with a differant tranny?
I have an '86 4x4 s10 that I bought at an auction for all of $200. It had sat in a field more than two years. Never started, nothing drained from it and yet we got it running in two weeks.
5 years and 4 freakin' transmissions later, I'm considering setting it ablaze.
Seriously I hate this vehicle. Yes I do need a 4x4 and I like that it's an enclosed body style and not an open bed but, DAMN! how much money do we have to sink into this thing before my husband just let's it go?!
OK, that was my rant, sorry. Anyway is there maybe a better tranny that we can easily switch out for? (please God) Cause this thing just doesn't like those 700r4's.
Thanks

I seriously hope you haven't been getting all of the transmissions from the same place... These 700R4's can be problematic in stock form, but with the multitude of vehicles that used the 700R4 behind V8 engines, they can be built to handle a lot of power.
So I guess I should ask where you have been getting your transmissions from? Has anyone just out rebuilt one for you? Have you checked out any of the online retailers for built transmissions for your application (MonsterTrans.com)?
