Default 98' Shifting Problems: Wont go in Park

1998 Floor shift. Here is a rundown of my problem. When I try to shift my car into park, it doesnt go into park but is in the reverse gear. The shifter gets stuck when i try to shift back out of the park position, and I need to manually shift to put into neutral. It only starts in the neutral position.

I am thinking it is something along the lines of a brake shift lock solenoid or something with the gear shift linkage on the transmission. Thought i could come here first for advice before i start taking things apart.

I can record a video and post it if it helps diagnose the problem! Thanks!

I've had the same issue in my 2000, I was able to pull back the boot around the shifter and zip tie the lockout in the open position. It's a little white plastic clip directly under the boot. Pretty self explanatory once your in there.
