Default 98 temp sending unit Q

Hello all. This would be my fist question for yall. I have a 98 4 dr. It has a temp sending unit unplugged. I for the life of me can not find the wires to it. The gauge works. Stays a little cold if you ask me, but works none the less.
I have searched here, but not found enough. Is it possible that I have a different year motor? Is it possible to delete this if I don't need it?

Thanks, Michael

that would be the temp sensor for the PCM, the 1 to you gauge is on the drivers side head i believe.... I looked at mine real quick and those wires are coming out of the loom going to the EGR

The 98+ trucks do not use this sensor. It was only used on the 96-97 trucks. Unless your intake (or whole motor) has been swapped for the 96-97 model year, that port shouldn't even be there...

that figures why mine has it and his does not, I wonder why they decided not to use it on the 98+, but like you said it makes sense that it should not even be there if its not being used

They combined the two sensors into one. The old style gauge sending units were single wire units located in the driver side cylinder head. When they changed over to OBD2, GM just added a more accurate sensor type into the system in a different location. They later combined the two, placing the newer design in the driver side cylinder head where it more accurately reads engine temps.
