Default Adding Coolant Question

Hi guys,

I'm about to take a lengthy road trip so I had my 2000 Chevy Blazer looked over. The informative mechanic let me know that I should top off my coolant because it looked low. He recommended that I use Dex-Cool Red. I'm just asking for any advice that you may have for me. Is this best coolant to go with? Is there any risk of error because I'm adding this coolant to perhaps an older coolant that was already used? Should I be mixing in water at any point? Any info would be great...

Thanks in advance...

J

if you just have to top it up buy the pre mixed at your parts store. and if you already have dex-cool in your truck stick with it. i dont believe that another coolant will hurt but since you are already running it and its an off the shelf product id stay with it

Another coolant will definately hurt. Dex cool is not compatible with ethylene. Most of the complaints about dex cool coagulating is in the present of trace amounts of non silicone based coolants. When doubt just add water. Use the search function as its a dead horse.
