Advice on water pump, please
My wife and I got this blazer (1993 S10 4.3 CPI 4X4 4D) knowing it had some issues and I've been working on them. Let's just say for now that a lot of the work done on this truck by previous owner(s) has been "less than competent", I'll post later with the full novel.
Right now, I seem to have discovered a need for a new water pump. I guess a week ago I noticed a hissing sound coming from the front of the motor. My first thought was a vacuum leak, but during my other diagnoses, I think I've ruled out that.
I noticed that it had lost a bit of coolant (although it never ran hot according to the temp gauge, which I know is really not accurate), which at first I thought was coming from the main radiator hose on the passenger side. After replacing the clamp and topping off the radiator, it was still dripping. I had an epiphany after the hissing noise went away after topping off the radiator and noticed even more coolant leaking underneath.
On top of the water pump (housing, I guess you'd call it) I noticed a weep hole, although I'd say it's more of an artesian well. And it looks like someone has plugged it with something in the past cause I found a lump of deteriorated soft material laying near it (rtv sealant maybe?).
Trouble is, Rock Auto lists two AC Delco water pumps, and I'm not sure which one this one uses. Both are listed as fitting.
Option 1: ACDELCO 252719 {#88926233} Does Not Include Mount Bolts Professional; Universal; w/ Threaded Outlet $27.79
Option 2: ACDELCO 251725 {#19201601, 251594, 31028400, 88894005} OE Design; Stamped Steel Impeller GM Original Equipment, W/Gasket, FLAT SHAPED BACK PLATE $91.79
Possible Option 3: BOSCH 98089 Includes Gasket, Standard version $28.79
If Bosch was an OEM for this part, I'm fine with that if you guys think it's a good part. I can't understand the huge price difference between the two AC Delco ones. What do they mean by "universal" and as for the pricey one, I thought stamped impellers were the cheap option?

I'm sure you would be fine with option 1 or 3. I have found that sites usually have an expensive OEM part # and also a replacement OEM part#. For lack of better term, I would consider the more expensive # similar to new old stock. The replacement part # is the basically the same part in my experience... Hope this helps

I'm going to order the pump tomorrow, got the old one off. It doesn't seem too bad, but you can tell the bearing has some play in it.
Before I put the new one on, I'm definitely buying a 14mm deep well socket (I only have up to 13mm). The nut on the top driver's side of the pump underneath the support bracket is a bear to get off. Stud is too long for a regular socket and because it's so close to the pump's housing, you only get about 30 degrees of swing space with a wrench (and only the closed box end will fit).
I'm wondering whether there's anything else I should go ahead and replace while I'm at it. Funds are somewhat limited, but I was thinking that a new thermostat would be cheap enough insurance. Is it worth it to change it?
