Aligning Oil Pump and Temporary Timing Fix
The timing on my 2001 ZR2 is way out of whack. The oil pump and distributor didn't line up. As a quick fix (and the dumbest thing I've done in a while) I just aligned the distributor with the oil pump since it was close enough to the timing mark. After that the blazer won't start. I tried turning the oil pump back with a screw driver but could never get it. Now the timing is way advanced. I've made a tool to turn the oil pump out of a junk yard distributor that I ground the gears off of and I've just been turning it back one cylinder at a time until I get it to run. Is this a worth while way too do it until I can actually do the top dead center method? I just have to get it running so I can have a shop fix the water pump that they messed up and then plan on doing the timing.

Yeah that's why I posted this. I was curious if I should just TDC it.
UPDATE: Moved the distributor back one cylinder and it started right up. Probably will still TDC it later this week though.
