Hey ya'll, I just fixed this problem and thought it would benefit the forum as a whole if I posted it (just in case anyone else gets this problem). So I was driving down the highway when my engine starts running incredibly rough, I mean the wheels were practically bouncing this thing was so shot. My engine light starts blinking, so i pull over to avoid further damage to the cat. Well I go to the front of the car, do a little inspection of everything and notice that my oil smells potently of gasoline.
At this point, I get the car home and start doing some research, most everything pointed me towards the fuel injection system, but I thought that I should get this code scanned before anything. Low and behold I got a P0300 (random misfire) code, so I took a look at the distributor assembly. One of the receivers for the screws on the distributor cap was broken off, and the cap was moving around like crazy, causing misfires all over the place.
I replaced the distributor and changed the oil, and after two weeks of smooth sailing, I feel confident enough to post this. If you are having the symptoms I listed, check the distributor before dropping 500+ bucks on a spider. Maybe I got lucky, but Im just hoping this will be useful to someone.
