Default Truck wouldn't start - ignition module

Hey guys,

I just fixed a problem and got a lot of help off this site, so I wanted to post up.

I just bought a 94 full size and two weeks after picking it up, it would crank but not start one day, but fire right up the next. I noticed it didn't start on cool and wet days, but thought nothing of it until later.

So I logged on to this site to check some posts and some symptoms and found a myriad of things to check. I had recently filled up the gas tank and noticed I had fuel running out of the back around the tank. So I figured I would start there. I dropped the tank and it looked rusted around the seam so I bought a new tank. But since I had it out, I went ahead and replaced the the fuel pump and sending unit too.

I cranked it and it still wouldn't start. So I pulled the coil wire on the distributor and it had no spark. The sticky on this site pointed to the ignition control module for intermittent starting so I pulled that. I had no idea O'Reilly's could test that so they did and it was bad. Once I put the new one in, it fired right up and has worked great ever since.

So thanks to everyone here for contributing. It shortened my time in figuring out what to look at. And if you have a truck that starts somedays and not others, especially when it rains or gets cold and humid, check the ignition module. It's cheap and easy to pull.

Thanks.
