no pcv valve

no pcv valve
I don't have a pcv valve, the hose is just plugged directly into the valve cover. I read somewhere that I shouldn't have one but I can't find it again. I cant really believe that. I'm guessing someone removed it when it got plugged, and didn't replace it. Are there short term symptoms of not having one or is it all long term damage? Just to clarify the hose is routed correctly, and the port isn't plugged, the valve is just missing. Also the hose looks like it was designed to plug into the valve cover directly.

Just to be clear, are you looking at that large tube that plugs into the back of the air breather hat on top of the throttly body and runs over to the passenger side valve cover? If so thats the fresh air tube to the crankcase, the PCV Valve is on the drivers side valve cover toward the back.
Even if you were looking at the right one i dont see how there could not be a PCV Valve, the hose that would plug into it goes straight to manifold vacuum and would cause a very rough idle if there was no pcv valve to close during high vacuum situations. Some cars used whats called a "Fixed Orifice" type pcv system, same concept except no moving parts, basically a calibrated vacuum leak, however i dont recall ever seeing this type on any GM vehicle.
Also, the PCV valve is stuck all the way into a rubber grommet on the drivers side valve cover, if its dirty like the rest of the engine then you may not actually see it until you pop the hose off and pull it out of there.
Post back what you find.
Hope this helps!
