Default NP233 Compatability 1997/1998 Blazers

Just bought a 1997 Blazer with a newly rebuilt NP233 TC, 3 button. I'd like to put it into my 1998 Blazer which has the NP233, also 3 button. My mechanic doesn't think they'll swap over, citing different casting numbers. Are they compatible?

The basic transfer case should be nearly identical between the two. Things like the encoder motor and possibly the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) may need to be swapped for compatibility, but they should bolt/thread in without issue if they do need to be moved over.
