Default Oil leak

Oil residue in my pcv valve, why? My neighbor said it could be piston rings gone bad and allowing pressure to blow past through the value cover into the pcv. Anyone knows about this problem?

A small amount of build up I would think is normal, The PVC valve removes oil vapors ect from crankcase and vapors are routed to the intake so they can be burned in the engine instead of releasing them into the air

If oil was passing through the rings wouldn't my truck be giving off some type of smoking?
BTW, how did you guys post your profile picture, I'm new to this. .
