Starting Issues Please Help!
Hey everyone so the other day i replaced my fuel pump and gas tank and am fairly sure i did every thing right. However, ever since i have been having loads of trouble trying to get it started when its cold. Every time i want to get it started i have to spray some starter fluid directly into the throttle body and crank it, sometimes this takes several tries. If i do this without any starter fluid it will just crank without firing. Its a 2001 BlaZeR2 with about 196k miles on it....can someone please help me diagnose this problem?
Thanks in advance

BUMP, so i couldn't get it started at all today, it would turn over for a few seconds and then stall out, from the sound of it it sounded like it was running too rich, please help guys!

did you check you pump pressure from under the hood using a pressure gauge?
I think it should be 70psi might want to verify that but if its not at full pressure then the pump is defective.

Have someone take you to the parts store to by a fuel pressure gauge.

Take a light with you stand on drivers side.
Look just behind the carb.
Close to bellhousing/intake manifold back corner.
May need to look around the hose running to brake booster.
There you see a high-pressure fitting.
Much like a valve stem used to inflate tires
If you turn the key in aux. position it will pack the line pressure, press in the valve with your finger gas should shoot out for a second releasing the 70psi.
If the key is still in aux. pos. you should here pump running trying to re-pressurize the line.
Don’t start a fire or nothing just a couple squirts should tell you if its at least pushing gas this far and the pump seems to be doing its job so far but you still want to verify the total pressure.
Go grab a gauge because packing pressure is critical.
60-65psi probably not enough pressure to crack the fuel injectors open.
Therefore I would say defective pump.
If it gauges in the 50's I would say defective for sure
Pressure gauge cost about $20-$30 bucks found at any auto parts store.
One other thing most fuel pumps warranties are voided if you don’t show proof that you replaced the fuel filter.
If you haven’t replaced it I recommend doing so.
And keep receipt with pump receipt dates should be within a couple weeks of each other.

Hey everyone, first off thank you LuvthyBlazer for that great description, i ended up taking it to a mechanic for him to check the fuel pressure however i may still ended up purchasing my own and trying this myself so i can check it when it is cold and has not been run to the mechanic....
anyway the guy who tested it said that anywhere 55 psi and above should work just fine and mine read 59psi....this is different from what is mentioned above so i am not sure about which is true lol,
however i pulled one of my spark plugs today to check if it was burning to rich and it looked fine, although when i was down there i noticed one of the spark plug wires was not completely on the plug....i am not sure if this was me just now or if it had been like that....either way is this enough to make it act up like it was? also would this account for the slightly rough idle ive been having?
Sorry for the long winded description
