Temp switch and/or Temp gauge sending unit and/or Temp sensor? "w" engine
I read somewhere where some guy on some forum went on a rant about the "Temp Sensor" and said there was, on some vortecs, a Switch and a Sensor, and the sensor was prone to fail, even without showing codes. And when this sensor fails, it causes anything from minor fuel economy drops to horrible engine timing. So, I wanna know, is this mythical temp sensor tied to the gauge or not? My 95 W code jimmy (seperate thread on it running poorly) has a properly functioning temp gauge. So does that mean that the magic sensor is good, or does the gauge have a seperate sending unit? Also, what is the single wire connector in the block on the driver's side? Switch, senor, gauge, or all/some of the above?

I'm curious about this too. Currently have a no start 2000 zr2 in the drive way being worked on.

All I can speak of is a 92 S10, it has both a sending unit on the motor + a coolant temperature sensor. The sending unit works the temp gage, the a coolant temperature sensor goes to only the computer.
My 30 year mechanic friend at the Chevy house says the coolant temperature sensor and the connector to it fails quite often, that he has changed many of them out. If it does it causes all types of trouble for the computer does not get the proper temperature of the engine.

Yes you have an ECT. For other questions, please be courteous enough to post your on thread rather than potentially hijack someone else's.
