Vortec year differences
So I have a 96 check blazer with the 4.3 vortec in it and recently came across what i thought was a good deal for a 94 s10 4.3 that i got cheap. Now i know the intake is different, but my question is about from the heads up? will I be able to use the intake from a 96 or will i also have to get 96 heads for the "spider" injection? I know that i read some about there may be a difference in the crank also. Would the heads from a 96 bolt onto the 94 block?

95 and older have CMFI, (Central Multiport Fuel Injection) and they have one fuel injector with 6 poppet valves and nozzles. 96 and newer have CSFI, (Central Sequential Fuel Injection) and they have 6 injectors, and 6 nozzles, some have 6 poppet valves. Different heads, different intakes, different injectors, different computer controls, and no crankshaft position sensor on early production 95 and older. Basically what you have, is not interchangeable with your 96. Your best bet for a donor engine is a 1996 or 1997. With some fooling around, you could make a 1998 through 2005 work though.

1994 has seen two variants but both are normally not interchangeable with the 1995 or later.
Variant 1 = VIN Z is the TBI injection. Looks like a carb with round air filter on top.
Variant 2 = VIN W is the CPI injection. Looks like tubing on top of manifold.
The difference is in the manifold bolts. 1994 should be all old style 90° to the heads while the later models have angled ones and a different number. Look for these.

The computer controls on your 96 require a crankshaft position sensor, and CSFI injection. Unknown if you can add a crank sensor to the 94 block. The tone ring slips over the crankshaft and it would also require 96 or newer timing cover to mount the sensor to. You already have the sensor, and the timing cover needs to be replaced anyway, (one time use only). The major issue is the 96 intake will not bolt to the 94 heads, and I'm not certain, but I don't think the 96 heads will bolt to the 94 block. Anything can be done, it's just a matter of how much fooling around, fabricating, and experimenting you want to do. Might be better to put the 94 engine on Craigs list, and find a 96 or 97 engine.

Ya thats why i may end up doing, hopefully i can find someone that wants it by the time i get done rebuilding it i guess, would be pretty awesome if i could find a junk yard that would just swap me but fat chance of that
