What trans years can I use?
I have a 97 4x4 Blazer that has the 4L60E trans in it. I want to know what years can fit it in. The sunshell is broke.
Yes, I know 96 and 97 will work if I change the solenoids in 96.
What I am curious about the 98 to 2002 trans work or anything newer? Would I have to use newer torque converter and flywheel?
I am looking a cheap option used trans before winter to get my Bonneville off the road this winter.
Next year I am having the original trans rebuilt.

96-2003 transmissions are the same. Bolt on bell-housing started in 1996 for S & T trucks. 98 & newer full size w/4.3L, 5.7L use the same style bell-housing as the S & T. technically speaking casting # 24200877 fits 96-97 and 24206579 fits 98-up. this one added 4 small bolt holes. I rebuild 4L60E's all the time. I agree with new guy, changing the shell is that bad, but does require some special tools.

Forgot to answer the question for converter and flywheel. yes you can rerun/reuse the converter and flywheel, bolt patterns the same. Filter should have caught most of any debris from the stripped or broken shell.
