1990 K5 rear window problems

The metal shaft is supposed to spin freely inside the blue jacket.
LMCTruck.com sells the cable for $30 under PN 32-4560.

LMAO... Just figured that out... I was operating the regulator with a drill, like you suggested, and the shaft broke in half inside the blue jacket, not sure what caused this malfunction, but glad it is nothing major! Thanks man!!!

K5 Blazer
i have a 1985 blazer with the same problem with the rear window.... i had to remove the cable transmission to the regulator and found out the hard way that the regulator is spring loaded... is there any where i can get a replacement transmission and cable.... i found that the cable was broken and upon removing the transmission and dissassembing it i found that there is a small washer like ball bearing unit on the worm shaft that blew apart... the ball bearings got caught in the worm and large plastic gear... the after market regulators that i have been able to find online donot apprear to come with the transmission gear unit any idea where i can get one???

Just joined this forum today-been reading all posts related to tailgate as I just ordered a new shell and have all the guts out of the old one. I think I'm in for a mess as when taking old components out that coil spring unwound and I think I heard something hit the ground which I never found. Any repairs or diagrams on what I should do or be looking for would be greatly appreciated. To answer Cj's last question if you still are looking for an answer-the cable will spin freely when disconnected and the motors turned on. It works sort of like a speedometer cable with the casing being stationary.

Just wanted to add my thanks to the forum. My '88 K5 back window would (occasionally) not go up from either switch. I read this thread, jumpered the safety switch - troubleshooting done. Many thanks. Once I win the lottery I will drop the $250 to replace the switch.
Thanks guys.

Jumped the switch
The rear window in my 1990 full size Jimmy would go down, but not up. After reading this post I decided to try the jumper wire fix on the safety switch which tells the system that the tailgate is latched. My window now goes up and down perfectly. Thanks to all that have contributed to the usefull information in this thread. This thread save me alot of money, frustration and headaches.
