i have a 1983 k5 with a 305 i am pulling out, if someone could help, how many bolts to release the engine from the transmission and how many motor mount bolts, i have also heard that any small block engine will bolt right into the existing motor mounts , thanks for your time and help

 

6 bolts attaches the transmission to the engine block which you will have to get at from underneath. not counting the inspection shield on the bottom if its even there. its possible to get the top two from the top of the motor but kinda a pain, dont forget to unbolt the the torque converter off the flex plate, which can have anywhere from 3-6 bolts depending on what transmission you have.

also the motor mounts only have one big bolt on each side, just take out the big ones that face front to back.

and yes you can bolt any small block up to the transmission, even the big blocks and 4.3 6cyl chevys will bolt up

 

Looking for a little help here, yep a true shade tree here, my blazer is on a 4 inch lift, with 36 inch tires, thought there would be plenty of room underneath, only thing left before the motor is pulled is disconnecting it from the transmission. i have air tools, but know extensions, anybody have any good advice on getting good leverage on the 9/16 bolts, kinda cramped up in there, what tools am i missing to make this easier and saw where a website stated that General motors has 3 bolts connecting fly wheel to torque converter, these are the 5/8 bolts correct? Thanks for any help

 

i remember doing this in my garage with just basic hand tools, like i said you can get at the top two bolts from the top of the engine they just kinda suck. at work with air tools we just use 2-3 foot extensions and swivel sockets to take them bolts out and install them. makes the job so much easier. you can try taking them off by hand or invest in some extensions and swivels or swivel sockets

i dont remember what size them bolts are but they all should be standard
