I bought a gas tank from a 75 Blazer off of Craigslist that was out of a roll over.

I have no idea how many gallons the tank size is and I need to buy a sending unit for it but there are 2 different sizes.

How in the world can I order the right one if I don't know the tank size?

I am using the tank in an old 64 C10 under the bed.

Fill it with water gallon by gallon till it's full? Lol honestly I have no idea other than maybe try google?

 

i think you can find out with a vin decoder do you still have the vin of the truck you took the tank off of ?

Edit: Yes you can find out i just entered my vin for my blazer and it has a 20 gallon tank

 

Unfortunately he got the tank from a 75. Iirc thru didn't implement the current vin number system until 77 or 80. I could be wrong but if so it'll only have an 8 or 10 digit vin which most vin decoders (otherthan maybe goin to the dealer) cannot decode

All I have is the tank and the year of truck it came out of.

There must have been more than one tank size or the parts guy wouldn't be asking me what size tank it was.


Is ther a place on-line I can enter the tank dimensions and determine the size that way?

 

All I know is i had a 77 blazer...was more trouble than it was worth here in PA as it still had the old style fuel system on it (originally designed for leaded fuel) even though the valves were hardened for unleaded. In PA they weren't grandfathered so in order to get it inspected after they implemented emissions they wanted me to have the entire fuel system replaced to comply with emissions. I guess since it wasn't registered as classic or antique they could get away with that. IIRC it only had a 10 digit vin and i couldn't find much out about it because of that. If the RPO codes are still readable you could find out more (if you still have access to the vehicle to look for them)

Edit: It's possible to determine the tank size by dimensions... let me do some searching for you and see what i can come up with.

It was either a 20 or 31 gallon tank. let me see if i can get the dimensions of each for you.

The shape of the tank measures exact to the dimensions but the depth is off.

If I am measuring correctly this one is 11.5 inches deep. I will double check it with a level to be sure.
