Default 1989 K5 A/C Bracket Help

Hi all,

I picked up a 1989 K5 Jimmy the other day for a good price since the drive belt wouldn't stay on. I got it home and found that 2 tabs had broken off the aluminum bracket.

It's a 350 TBI engine. It looks like my bracket was made to hold a smog pump. There was no pump attached, and it doesn't show one on the belt diagram. Not sure if it never had one, or if someone removed it at some point. Will a bracket without a smog pump keep everything lined up in the same locations so that a stock belt will work or do I need to keep looking for one with a smog pump?

Pictures of the Jimmy and bracket attached

Thanks

so theres no smog pump there now? where is the belt slipping off of, the tensioner?

what i would do in this situation since you actually have the part off go junkyard hopping and bring that with to see if you can find a new bracket with or without the smog pump attachment

Nope, there's no smog pump there now and the diagram showing how to route the serpentine belt doesn't show one.

The belt was slipping off of the a/c. The bracket was moving all over the place since it was only held on with one bolt.

350 TBI engines from 1989-1995 with the serpentine belt setup never came with smog pumps. GM left the bracket for the smog pump on the engine, but they never came with them from the factory. Last year for the smog pump was 1988 with the old V-belt setup.

Thanks, exactly what I wanted to hear.

I picked up a bracket today at the junkyard. It doesn't have the smog pump bracket on it. I should be able to get it back together this weekend.

Next up is a new tailgate window cable....
