Default K5 fender badge

I'm trying to remove the K5 Blazer fender badges from a 1984. I don't see any access to the trim nuts behind the fender skin. Can someone clue me in, please?

If I remember right, you have to take the fenders off and take off a speed nut to get them off, at least that's what I did on my 79. And I've heard of guys just prying them off slowly.

That's what I thought. I just wanted to see if there was a trick to avoid having to r & r the fenders. The problem is that I'm doing a complete paint job, I can easily break the old ones off, but to hang the new ones I'll be dealing with freshly painted fenders.
