Default Quadrajet Leaking Fuel onto Motor

Hey all.

Picked up a 1988 K5 Blazer Silverado 4wd 4spd the other day. Runs pretty darn great. I did not check the radiator before leaving , and I got it pretty hot on the way home, and pulled over quite a bit before redline.

Anyway, judging from all of the plugs under the hood that don't go to anything, and a CHECK ENGINE light on the cluster, I assume that this thing was TBI at one point, but now has a Quadrajet carb on it of some sort.

My question is for someone that knows something about these carbs - I can't get it to start on it's own after it got a little toasty. Any gas that I pour into the bowl LEAKS OUT on the front passenger side of the carb, onto the manifold. It's about half way down the carb, and isn't at the base of the manifold. I'll go snap a picture sometime soon.

Anyone have any clue of a gasket or anything in the carb it might be, or is it defenately cracked or something somewhere? Just searching the pool of knowledge on this fourm before I go tearing into the carb or ordering a rebuild kit.

Thanks all.

Pictures of my ride if anyone's curious. I'll go snap a few pictures of the leak here in a minute.

Shot a video of the leak. Uploader on here didn't like it, so I put it on youtube.

In all honesty I don't have a whole lot of experience with the quadrajets. My 81 k5 is my first vehicle that has one. But when I see anything like that I usually end up replacing the carb out of preference. You can buy a rebuild kit for just about any carb or throttle body that will allow you to go through and change the jets, seals, floats and the such. It all depends on what you would want to do. As for it not wanting to start once it gets a bit toasty it could be that the fuel pressure regulator, if they used one, is getting a little too warm. My dad has an 88 suburban that was swapped from a 454 tbi to a 383 carb and when his regulator gets too warm it'll actually stall the truck and you gotta let it sit for about an hour to cool down. Now if you drive around and keep the air flow going it's fine but once that girl sits idling for a good 15-20 mins she starts to spit and will stall if you don't get it moving.

Thanks for the reply.

I figured out today that a gasket went out on me, so I made another one out of some gasket paper-type stuff I had. Hopefully it'll hold up to gasoline, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

Got 'er running good and no white smoke (thank God), no oil or water mixing with anything (thank God), and everything seems well. Except this horrible intermittant chirp/squeek. I'm hoping the alternator has a bearing going out or something simple, and it isn't an engine bearing. My oil gauge stays pegged out - so I'm not sure of the exact oil pressure (that's on my long todo list), but I'm not getting any tapping, knocking, etc.
