Default MSD HEI distributor upgrade?

In the next week or so I am going to be putting the MSD in my 74 Jimmy. My question is for those of you that have done it is there any tricks or problems you ran into. And how did you like it when it was done?

There is no comparison between an original points style distributor and HEI. HEI is much better!

Basically, junk the wiring to your coil now as it is a resistor wire. Run a new wire from a switched +12V source at the fuse box under the dash out to the + terminal on the distributor and your done!

So it really is the easy huh. I know changing out a distributor isn't that bad but I wasn't sure if this would be any different. I knew getting away from the points is the way to go and it would be a upgrade.....I just wasn't sure how big of one it would be.

Also what coil would you recommend......blaster 2?

If you are going with the full MSD Streetfire distributor, it should come with the coil. Drop it in, hook up the vacuum, wires, and +12V ignition source, and time it and you're all set!

You will need a new spark plug wire set for it since the cap posts are different on the HEI distributors.
