How many miles does your original Vortec V6 have?
#221
I'm rebuilding a 1994 4.3l V6 engine with 110'000 miles on odo.
Aside from that my second daily drive is a 1994 blazer with 175'000 miles on it.
The truck has always been serviced according schedule. Always had enough oil and water in it.
4DR 4WD automatic transmission some trailer towing, some offroad.
What we found after taking it apart and measuring:
- cylinders are round to within factory specs.
- cylinder bores show nearly no wear, no ridge on top, pistons could be pushed out with a gentle tap.
- cylinder heads show nearly no wear. valves and guides in top condition
- rockers and pushrods are the same.
- lifters show minimal wear pattern consistent with mileage well within factory specs
- camshaft shows minimal wear consistent with mileage and well within specs
- The only place I found some stuff was the camshaft bearings (small embedded particles - the bearings did their job no wear on the camshaft.)
- Two of the four crankshaft bearings showed embedded particles as well and crank has some ridges.
All within tolerance. I'll change the crankshaft because this is a build. Had the engine be left in the truck I guess it would be good for at leas another 150'000 to 200'000 miles.
Good luck

376,026, so far, miles on my 1999 Blazer LS Vortec 4.3
Yup... she's got 376k miles on her. It's running really nice these days... spent last summer chasing Check Engine codes that turned out to call for replacing the MAF sensor... and then new plugs, wires, and coil... replaced the original U-joints a month ago... and now is running so nice. Several years ago, blew the head gasket at 310,000 and spent $1300 getting it repaired. Mechanic said all looked pretty clean inside, valves looked good, not much carbon built-up... said could do a ring-job but it'd blow out the valves... could do a valve job but might blow out the rings, better to just leaver things alone. Today is running fine, not burning oil, and getting about 22 mpg... awesome, I tell you! Am still running the original starter motor and original transmission... no problems. ... I owe it all to running Tribotech every 40k when it was new, until I couldn't buy it anymore... along with regular oil-changes and simply fixing things as they go bad. My spreadsheet shows over $18,000 in tires, parts, and maintenance since I bought it in July 2000.

As of today, my '98 has 85k.
Picked it up about 4 years ago with 54k, from an 85 year old.
He bought it from an even older woman, a few years earlier.
I've put a lot of money in it, but I am still infatuated.

UPDATE 2/2/2018... now at 388,217... installed a new fuel pump (the 4th time replaced) last month... still running nice... not using oil between scheduled oil changes (conventional 5-30 approx every 4k) (original valves/rings, no head work except replace blown head gasket) and can count on at least 20 mpg when planning a road trip ... It's my best-ever long-term relationship!

Got a '96 LS 4x4 with 261k on the original motor. Second Trans, probably 3rd or 4th water pump, numerous heater cores, and a bunch of other small stuff that I've fixed. I plan on driving her until she literally explodes. Hopefully I'm not in it when that happens.

Yesterday crossed 398,000 on my 1999 2-dr 2wd LS... original transmission and starter! See up above with the big picture at 376k miles...Posts 223 and 227.
My AC compressor had needed replacement for several years, had no AC... but did so earlier this year... installed one of those $180 compressor/accumulator kits off of eBay... seems fine. ... Also replaced fuel pressure regulator ( a $56-dollar part on the injector spider under the throttle-body. My Blazer is running real nice.
