Reoccuring Exhaust problems
I had an exhaust leak for a little while now and finally got around to fixing it about a week ago. I look under the truck and right there in the open, 3 rubber hoses meet into a plastic t, and the t was melted up. I figure it was odd to have plastic in an exhaust area, and i figured it probably wasnt supposed to actually get that hot.
I went ahead and replace the plastic t with a copper one i had laying around. instantly the next plastic piece in the system melted. Its t's off into what looks like an emissions unit of some sort near the oil filter assembly. Melted to ****.
Something must be wrong for it to be getting hot enough to melt all of this stuff, any ideas? Im guessing some valve must be stuck open or something.

a blocked catalytic converter could cause the y-pipe to get overly hot and even though it is not running different it is a possibility check with a local exhaust shop to see if they have a back pressure tester simple test and usually free or very cheap ( at least it was in my shop )
