my fuel gauge quits periodically due to as bad wire (thats been repaired before) it tends to get rubbed by the transmission crossmember and or the shift linkage. Id check there for signs of corrosion and test for voltage to the wires from the fuel pump.

and listen to gatorboy44 ive learned the hardway on spark plugs and fuel pumps spend the extra and get ac delco parts only. there is a reason why they come with these prts from the factory and that is cause ac delco does it best
