Default Possible grounding problem

Won't start. Dash goes blank
Runs fine and then gauges die and the battery light comes on and engine dies. First time a jump started the vehicle started, next time; nothing. Shop tested but vehicle started by itself. They found the battery, starter, and alternator was okay.

Yesterday, after posting this question, I jumped the vehicle after charging for about three minutes and it started up. Now the starter makes a funny sound before it turns over but it is starting.

Since I still have no idea concerning the shorting/grounding out, I won't move the vehicle until I take it in to be checked and repaired. (I hope!)

As a side note: the second shop (electrical diagnostic shop) I took it to when it last stopped said it would cost $720.00 just to get it to start and THEN they would be able to investigate my electrical problem!!
