Default compass calibration??

i recently upgraded my stanard compass temp overhead display with the one that also reads out millage and distance till empty. everything on the new display works great. except for my compass. i cant get it calibrated. aftfirst it displayed a direction. then just a C . i tried to calibrate it like the owners manual said to do... to no avail. now when i start my truck it displays C and the tempurature. as soon as i move the c disapears and the screen goes empty except for tempurature. ive used the search function here and online and cant get any answers. any sugestions?

also my truck is a 2000 gmc jimmy sle. the donor truck was a 1999 envoy.

You might want to call a GMC dealer parts dept and ask them if the '99 envoy mirror is compatible with the 2000 Jimmy...I know my '93, during its recalibration, turns the rear defogger relay on & off to adjust for the magnetic field it generates.....who knows what the '99 uses compared to your 2000....just a thought

What does the owners manual say to do?
My 2000 gets lost sometimes and goes back to C
I drive in circles in a parking lot until it comes back I can't remember if its clockwise or counter-clockwise or if it matters.
