trip odometer resetting after new starter
98 4dr blazer ls Installed new starter the other day now every time I start it the trip odometer goes to zero, only found one post about it but it isn't really clear on weather they fixed it or not, unfortunately for me the trip is also my fuel gauge so it really sucks not being able to use it. Anyone see this problem and or a clear fix for it please chime in!

This is not a clear fix, but here goes.
On my 2k blazer I've got the fuel gauge problem as well. still haven't fixed it yet but while working on it. Found that on the right front side of the engine block (left as you look at it from front) there is wires coming from the PCM in a wire loom. I had to open up the loom and found some wires melted from the heat of the engine. They were not melted and wires inside touching. But melted as in plastic stuck together but the wires were still isolated from each other.
I guessing you disconnected the battery cables. Tugged on the hot cable as you wrestled with the starter. The hot cable and the wire loom I'm talking about are close. Could be something in that wire loom.
Just a thought.

Finally fixed the trip odometer issue!!!!!!!!!!!
I installed a new battery thinking maybe the new starter was pulling extra amps and taking power from cluster did not fix my problem, so I gave up on it for awhile until last night when the blazer wouldn't start acting like battery was dead while cranking but had 12v at battery, and that is when the light bulb over my head turned on!!
Got out under the hood and checked battery cables at battery all good, checked wires on starter they were good, checked ground wire at engine and it fell off! repaired the ground cable and reinstalled starts properly again AND the trip odometer works perfectly again!
It all makes sense now!
Guess i was over thinking the problem, Oh well got a blazer that starts with a suitable fuel gauge!
