I am looking for some ideas before I pull off the front wheels

I am getting a grinding noise. Not sure which side yet. It is coming from the front. I am also getting the ABS activating when braking hard and turning to the right. Does not do it when stopping straight.

I have a 97 ZR2 that has new pads, calipers and rotors. The brake hoses are 4-5 years old. I also recently replaced the ABS wheel sensor on the drivers side. It had wear marks from the reluctor and was throwing a code. I also replaced the hub because of the wear from the reluctor. This vehicle has the ABS mounted in the dust shield.

Any ideas why my ABS activates on dry pavement when turning right?

 

could bad hub. jack wheel off ground , grab wheel at 12 and 6. move back and forth top to bottom while someone looks to see if the axle moves up and down. If it does ,your hub is bad. You`ll know it

 

I now have 2 new hubs and 2 new ABS sensors.
I am still getting the ABS activation at low speeds on dry pavement.
Now it seems even worse. Its doing it when going straight.

ABS light is not on.

 

I give up. This is too dangerous to have the ABS connected. I have disconnected it till I can figure this out.

I have tested both sides with a meter. I probed the plug at the ABS module and spun both sides. Depending how fast I spin the wheel, I get at least 350mv AC.
Both sensors read around 1.7K ohms resistance.

Anybody got ideas?

 

I could be completely off here, but isn't there a speed sensor for the abs near the end of the transmission? I'm no expert on these trucks, but maybe it could be that, just throwing out a suggestion.

 

I think that is the VSS vehicle speed sensor.

The VCM processes the signal from the VSS and sends it to the following components:The instrument panel and cruise control module

 

Both tires on the front the same size?

 

31"x10.5x15 BFG AT on Z28 rims. Factory size tires.

 

The air gap may be out of spec. When the bearing starts to go the gap changes and you get ABS activation. Some aftermarket hubs and sensors are not very reliable. And the cables are made from cheap material. Try replacing the cable/sensor with the OEM from the old hub.

 

I think thats the next thing I will check (air gap)
The thing is my setup is not like the 98+. The ABS sensor is located in the dust shield and is not adjustable.
