If you're feeling a gringing/cruching you're front wheels are definitely engaged, and youre actually grinding your transfer case. On these trucks the 4wd is only meant for conditions in which your wheels can slip freely.. i.e. not on pavement.

If you keep pushing the truck through turns or if you keep driving in a straight line (like on a highway), you'll eventually build up enough axle wrap to crack open your T-case..[:@]

Remember: 2Hi till you get stuck

i went and checked it out but its not the transfer case its clearly clunking from around the front axel passenger side it makes the same noise when i flick it to two wheel drive accelerate and the front wheels unlock it makes a bit of a clunk. It doesnt do it all the time just some times.

Yea I had a driveline clunk and thought it was the tranny...but I did a rear axle service, and apparently it was the rear diff, cause the clunk is now gone!

You probably ground a tooth off or something wild up in the front differential when the axles bound up real hard. I'd have it checked out soon, and not use 4x4 till you do!
