OK, well I will be lifting my Blazer and installing 31/10.50x15's.

As of now I have RPO GU6 (3.42:1) axle ratio, I know that the speedo will be off but, also there will be a little drop in take off power.

So, I have been thinking of swapping out mine for one with 4.10:1's I have a buddy that has a 2000 S10, which is pretty much just a GOFER...(Go For This, Go For That...HAHA!!) shop truck, in essence.

He will let me just swap out the whole rearend if I want too.

It is a 2.2L of course..I also have a Zexel Torsen that I will be putting in this truck (my blazer) to help with slippery conditions.

My question is should I even worry about swapping gears (axles)??? It will be mostly a street queen with the occasional blast off-road for fishing, camping etc.

 

i run 31's and 3.42 gears its not that bad, I have a set of 3.73 gears I've been meaning to put in but you could switch to 3.73 gears or 4.10 so you don't loose any power in the 4 cylinder. I thought most of those came with 3.73's or 4.10's to begin with to make up for lost power

 

Sorry that is my fault....The S10 PU is a 2.2 mine is a 95 Blazer with 4.3 and 3.42.

 

ahhh ok yea you will be fine with 3.42's with the 4.3 I really didn't see much of a loss of power at all. Maybe down the road if you want to upgrade to 3.73's but its really not that big of a deal. There is a guy on here who runs 3.73's with 33" tires and he says that works fine. 4.10's are a bit of overkill for 31's

Just wanted to take advantage of an opportunity before it passed me by. I found the Richmond Gear calculator and it will only change the rpm's by about 300..So, not really enough to worry about I guess.

 

from what i read so far, the S-10 rears are narrower than the blazers/jimmy's rear axles,somthig like 3-4 inches narrower, keep that in mind, and the ZR2's are wider than the blazers/jimmy's, i had to toss that in cause i almost made that mistake
