Default removing front axles for the summer

I lifted my blazer and tore a dust boot on the axles, i was wondering if i could remove the axles for the summer and leave them out and when i have the money and need 4x4 ill just put new ones, what are your thoughts and anything a should know going into it. also while doing the lift i couldn't take the axles out because they seem to be seized to the diff assembly pretty good (Nova Scotia salt road for the win)

The unit bearings NEED the shaft installed or else you will experience a bad failure of the unit bearing. So simply removing the CV shafts is not a good idea. You would need to cut apart the old CV's and put the ends back into the unit bearings, torqued to spec.

No problem, and thanks.

You should also put something to cover up the ends of the axle so dirt and debris can't get in there.

maybe just put grease in there once a month unless you are going off road a lot. there are lots of customers cars who never fix their ripped boots and never have any axle failure

Did this for a year on my old truck, just pump grease in there every month or so and no problem, for me any way

Ya I was doing that, but with the salt on the roads and minor off-roading the drivers side has a nasty click to it, eventually I need to do a complete overhaul on the front end, so I may just deal with the clicking for now and wait till I do that

So I did a break service last night to fix my squeaky break and realized what was clicking, come to find out it's just the boot that is making the noise, so gave the joint a healthy dose of grease and was happily on my way. Can these cv's be taken apart and anyone have a thread on how it's done? Thanks
