Stering Wheel Play and Wheels not turning fully.
Hey,
First off, new here, and just have a few questions. I am noticing quite a bit of wheel play on my new project(02 xtreme, putting in a 5.3 this weekend) and also the wheels when you turn the steering wheel only go about 2/3 the way to the right.
I have checked out the gear box, its seems fine(i replaced it and same issue). I did notice play in the rag joint, and the angle of the tie rod ends seem to be 5/10degress titled in.
Anybody have any ideas on what might be cause the wheels to not turn fully to the right, and would that also be a reason for the steering wheel play? Also the ball joints and control arms are brand new, if you are thinking that could be the issue.
Thank you!

Are the tie-rod links the same length? If not, then that could explain the abnormal steering to one side versus the other.
As far as the sloppiness goes, that is a fairly common occurence with these trucks. When you replaced the gear box, did you inspect or replace the rag joint (the rubber isolation joint between the steering shaft & the gear box)? Also, have you checked all of the tie-rod ends as well as the pitman arm for wear/play?

I didnt mean to sound condescending or sarcastic, that was not my intent. If in fact you do own an 02 V8, you either have a bit of money or mechanical sense. When you used resort #1 what did you find? My search revealed idle arm, how to check for steering play, rag joint, and steering box adjustment. My take is when you replaced the box you didnt center the steering wheel, the road wheels and the box. Again sorry, as a V8 Xtreme HAS to be a bad ars ride!
