I was over at the fullsizechevy forum and found a cool thing about converting your 1 wire o2 over to the heated o2 sensor for a faster Closed loop operation,and maybe save a few mpg since the 1 wire takes so long. I will be doing this possibly this weekend,if not the next. Apparently its a fix for people that install headers etc. They tend to cool exhaust gases and tends to make it hard for the non heated o2 to heat up thus putting the computer into closed loop. Well,what i think in theory since its got a built in heat unit on the sensor,wouldnt it just benefit all together? I wouldnt do this if you live in a area that has COLD winters etc. im down south. we might see 32 degrees a few times a year.


Random info ive found

3 wires are simple,you have 2 whites and a black. 1 white is ground,1 white is 12 volt key on power. polarity doesnt matter as long as one goes to 12 volts key on and one is grounded to the block or frame. The black wire is the ecm signal wire that you tap into the factory single wire that plugs into your single wire sensor. If you have a pull it yard local,find a single wire sensor,cut the pigtail off,and find a 3 wire sensor and use it,or at least get the pigtail off it so there is less to be soldered or crimped they shouldnt charge much..the new sensors cheap too,around $30-$40..

one wire o2 sensors came on the early late 80 to 93ish? 4.3's and 350 trucks. they are non heated,they use the exhaust gas's to heat up.


Google around and read some,and post back with opinions. Dont ask me questions as i just posted what i know lol. Im going to look into it more,if or when i do it il post a write up with pictures etc.

 

This is another thing that I want to try out. Test it on one truck first and see if it does make any difference or not.

 

Done it years ago on my blazer, it works.
