180 vs 195 thermostat 85 w/89 4.3l
im new to the forum and doing a couple threads here. im going to be replacing the thermostat and i see there are a couple options. the 195 ,180 and even 160 degree. the truck is mainly used for around town plowing and sits most of the year. a couple times a year it is taken on the highway but thats it . why so many options? should i just stick with 195 which is probably the factory one? thanks

If you live in a hot area its ok to drop down to a 185 or 180. If you still have fuel injection don't go any lower. The engine and ecm is designed to run hotter than carbs to aid in the combustion.
If you live in a really hot area, its offroad only, been swapped to carb you could drop down lower. Been proven to hurt more than it helps even on old v8s but somebody always claim otherwise, your choice.

In NJ I would keep the 195 for heater to work faster.
I run 180s in both my fuel injected trucks but our summers are more humid and hotter.
Pretty much anything 86/87+ from GM is gonna be fuel injected unless some knuckledragger ripped it off and put a carb on it. If its also in NJ with yalls strict rules if its street driven I bet its factory.
