Default 1987 Power Window motor

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to test to see if the switch is bad or the motor? Is there a way that maybe I can take a wire from the battery and touch the hot wire on the switch to see if the window goes up and down? If so, which one is it that I need to touch with a hot wire from the battery?

yeah thats how we test them at work using a power probe but you can ghettofy it and just run 2 wires off the battery and check it that way. the way most newer cars work (been a while since i messed with anything from the 80s) is the motor will have 2 wires going to it, positive and negative. but they reverse depending on which way you run the power so if you put + on one side and - on the other the window may go up. no reverse then and the window will go down.
