Default Rear Hatch Doesn't Lock

Me again! My rear hatch doesn't lock. It will shut, and it will latch, but it can easily be opened by turning the handle, opening the rear glass, then opening the liftgate. I think the lock cylinder is broken, anyone else have any ideas?

I think the lock cylinder is broke also. GM can sell you one keyed to match or not. Also many folks on this site use a company called LMC? I think-and I also think they say that LMC is cheaper than GM-never used them but I'm sure someone may chime in. Jerry

If it is broke, how do you replace it?

you take the tailgate upholstery off(phillips head screws) and don't forget one each around the corner-you'll see what I mean when you do this. Pull metal cover off to reveal back side of lock assby.(4-10 mm bolts) I then usually take a long pry bar and slide clip off around the back side of lock, releasing it. Depending on how complete the new lock assby is you may need to 'steal' the 'arm' off the back of the lock as well as the rubber base seal. Re-installation is in reverse of these instructions. Jerry PS not a bad job at all.

Sounds easy enough. I'll look through the junkyards and such later on. I have a long list of parts I need including a swing arm spare tire carrier. Thanks for the help Jerry!

Just for the record, LMC is a great company. I've used them for parts for a variety of different vehicles, ranging from antique Chevy trucks to late 80's Fords (don't hate me).

They're good on price, the quality of the parts is outstanding, and they ship fairly fast.

Just in case someone was wondering...

Bringing this post alive once again! I think I have located the part. LMC part number 29-7788. Or http://www.lmctruck.com/ICATALOG/CST/full.aspx?Page=49 - It's part 2. This is what I need to purchase right?

or you can go This Route and get the same thing for less than half the price (not dissin LMC I've bought quite a few things from them with no complaints) but some things are cheaper local.
