Default Overhead Console

I have the overhead console in my 94 Jimmy SLE, but it doesnt have the Information Center. Did any of the 1 Gen models come with the Direction Indicator and Outisde Temp display?

the slot in a 1st gen I believe is the same as a 2nd gen. just grab the temp sensor of the same truck... friend just picked one up, I will confirm that for you when he installs it.

it's just a cover on the front of the overhead, pops right off...

ok thats great. Is all the wiring already there or do I have to grab anything else from the 2nd gen. I know I was able to do this for the wifes van. The connector was already present, just not the outside Temp sensor. She gets everything but the temp now.

I popped the cover off the where the display would go and I didnt see or feel any wiring in there. No plug or connectors. So I guess I'm not wired for the overhead display. Oh well.

sorry, forgot I posted in this.
he didn't have any of the wiring because the overhead wasn't in his from factory(same as my 2nd gen) but pulled the harness from the donar vehicle.

make sure the temp sensor is from the same year as the computer!!!! not sure what year they changed, but they use different readings in some, so your tempature will be off if you use the wrong year.

haha I swapped computers from a different overhead that had trip on it, but grabbed the harness from just the temp readout one.. oops... different plugs

pulling a wiring harness and re-running it in mine is to much work for the little reward of knowing what the Outisde Temp is.

plus we arent sure what year to get it from since I need the same year computer for the temp sensor.

I THINK they did the changover in 98... so if you know the rough year I can look it up for you.
need to run 1 wire from the computer to the sensor then the sensor to ground. assuming you already have power/etc.
if you grab the sensor from wrecker, and it's the wrong year, you'll know its the wrong one cause the temp will be noticeably off, in which case you grab the proper on and swap them.

where is the sensor located at on these trucks? If I get the chance to go to my pick a part, I'll look to see if they have any and I'll try to grab one. You need to know what year the donor truck is to see if the sensor will match up?

withing a year range, or the temp reading will be off. but like I said, i think there were only 2 different ones in 2nd gen's, so if 1 is wrong, the other is right.

behind grille in front of a/c condender, under hood latch. cb6 has a pic in his album. look in the recent thread 'Outside Air Temp Sensor' and click on the link in his post
