88 S-10 Blazer 4.3L Trans noises
i have an 88 s10 blazer auto, it seems to make a loud clanking noise when i put it into reverse. i pulled the driveshaft out thinking it was the universals but they were fine and greased well. it also likes to make a slight clanking noise when downshifting or when im slowing down to stop it will clank then jump.
do i need a new trans? how hard of a job is it?

im sorry i should have mentioned it has 4x4, altho i have never used it. but when i hear the clanking/clunking noise it sounds like the noise coming up through the 4x4 box on the floor.
ive checked fluid level, its in operating range and its new
universals are good.
i dotn knwo if the 4x4 would have anything to do with it.
