Hard breaking brake fade

A couple of times now since I purchased my 93 blazer I have had to do a heavy brake check while in traffic. The brakes would start working the ABS would start buzzing then the brakes would just fade out, luckily I didn't hit the car ahead of me but it sure got my heart to racing . The brakes are new all around as well as the master cylinder. Could the ABS unit be going bad or unable to work against my hard breaking? the brakes work fine under normal driving but not very strong. I almost want to bypass the ABS and go back to normal braking. Any help would be great.

did you bleed the abs and master cylinder when you did the brakes? it could be that you have air in the abs unit and it can be a pain to get out. does the peddle feel spongyer or go farther down before doing anything, after the abs stop than it did before? is there a similar aged vehicle that you can compare it to? is the abs light on? are you sure it is out of 4x4 completely if the front axle stays ingaged it does wierd things with the abs. on the same note call the dealership with the vin and ask if they have a record of any recalls the truck needs done. there is one for the 4x4 that greatly affects the abs.

All the b rakes were new when I bought the Blazer in September. The 4x4 was not engaged and the ABS light does not come on. I have bled the front and back brakes several times but have not done the ABS unit. Yes air may have gotten into the ABS unit when the previous owner replaced the master cylinder. I will try and use my vacuum bleeder in the unit when it warms up a bit.
