Default How to tell the difference betweet 4.3l's when looking for parts

how do i tell if my 4.3 is a 4.3L 262cid V6 MFI (W), 4.3L 4296cc V6 MFI [L35], or a 4.3L 4296cc V6 MFI [LB4]. i always thought mine was a (w) until i searched rock auto parts and it gave me these choices. now im not sure.

Is there a sticky somwhere in these forums that could point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance!

LB4 == Vin Z == TBI (round air cleaner on top of the engine) offered from 1988 to 1995 in the s10s, but really fell out in 1993 in the Blazer/Jimmy/Bravada.
L35 == Vin W == CPI (plastic cover with "vortec" written on it) offered from 1992 to 1995

The three character code relates to the RPO code for that motor. So what you have will be listed on the RPO code sheet in the glove box. The Vin W or Vin Z relates to the engine digit in the VIN number which is the 8th digit in the VIN.

So i guess that would make mine a 4.3 is a 4.3L 262cid V6 MFI (W) since the Vortec cover is not plastic?

Are you sure it is not plastic? It is just a trim cover on the CPI motors. W == CPI.
