I have an 2.8 v6 engine out of an s10. I need a manual flywheel for this engine. I am trying to find out the year. Here are the numbers off the block.
Right side; canada 14089818 GM 2.8LG
left side; 818 L1
top by dist; GM K2
Rear of block behind flywheel; R 6 818
It has a 2 bbl carb and the belt is serpenteen and vee belt also.
Is the R on the block same as the R for the vin code? Which would make it an '86? But the 2bbl carb? I'm looking at the engine and scratching my head. any thoughts.
Thanks,Kirk

Yea, It's me. I'm just trying to figure out which flywheel to buy. From what I see online one flywheel is for '85 and down and the other one is for '86 and up. Is there a differents? Does it matter? I want to make sure I get the right one.

According to my sources...2.8L throttle bottle began in 1986. Serpentine belt began in 1987.

I would say someone has rebuilt or redone this engine before but I am guessing. Like you I am head scratching.

I don't have the truck so I don't have any access to the vin #s. I know the TBI came out in 86 and I don't see any good reason to go back to a 2bbl carb. I'm thinking it is an 85. I have pulled the flexplate and will head down to the bone yard and try to match it up. I guess I should look for the same year. Someone had mentioned about flywheel/flexplate weights?? something about internal/external weights to balance the engine?? I'm still puzzled by the R stamp on the block. I would think in would be a B.
